A Capacitance Level Transmitter is an instrument used to measure the level of a substance (typically a liquid or solid) within a container based on changes in capacitance between two electrodes.

Working Principle:

• It operates on the principle that the capacitance between two conductive plates (an electrode and the tank wall or a reference probe) changes as the level of the material between them changes.

• As the level rises or falls, the dielectric constant of the material between the plates changes, which alters the capacitance. This change is measured and converted into a level signal.

Components:

1. Probe (Sensor Rod): Acts as one electrode.

2. Tank Wall or Reference Rod: Acts as the second electrode.

3. Dielectric Material: The substance (liquid or solid) being measured.

4. Electronics Unit: Converts the capacitance change into a readable output (e.g., 4–20 mA signal).

Types:

• Rod Type: For conductive or non-conductive liquids.

• Cable Type: Suitable for tall tanks or silos.

• Coaxial Type: For more precise and stable measurements.
